I knew it!

I should have slept in and come in late today. The Boss just came around and said we all can leave at 2:30 today. Which just happens to be the time I am scheduled to leave on Fridays. Typical. At least I'm off next Friday, Dec. 29th when they'd pull the same stunt...and Monday is the New Year's Day Holiday. A 3-day weekend about to begin, a 3-day work week coming up and a 4-day weekend just around the corner. Life is good.

Why not say at the start of the day that everyone can go home an hour early? Or even make that announcement at lunch-time? Why do they have to wait until the last minute? It's not that they don't know people come in at 6am, but coming around at 2:30 and saying everyone can go home now is totally disrespectful to those people who'd be leaving then anyway.

Having additional days off during the holidays help to keep my sanity level on par. I know what you mean about the last minute BS that employers try to pull. One of my 6 bosses decided to throw this little doozy in at the last minute: all employees who were originally exempt from working the day after the new year will now be required to report to work as scheduled unless authorized by management.Employees who do not show up to work will forfeit one vacation day from their available time off. Management employees will still observe the holiday per upper management. We ask that management not announce this change in policy unless the information is specifically requested. Have a Happy Holiday.

So basically the guy who calls the shots and never shows his face around the office decided that the cronies don't need the day after new years off this year. While telling everyone who was affected by the change would have been the honorable thing to do, he opted to go the other way and just let us all find out via our paychecks the next week that we got screwed out of a paid holiday. Lucky for us losers, we have one manager who has at least an ounce of honor and he spilled the beans to all the employees. The resulting flood of emails into top dogs inbox caused him to change things back to the way they are posted in our handbook. So we got our paid day off back. Sneaky pricks....
